2023 world patient safety day challenge
Take this challenge to support patient safety and win a complimentary annual paid subscription to Let's Talk Risk!
Dear colleagues, hello! 👋
This Sunday, September 17th, 2023, was the World Patient Safety Day. To mark this occasion, I would like to invite you to participate in this challenge so we can do our part in raising awareness of this important global issue.
🔥As a reward, I will offer 5 complimentary annual subscriptions (a $150 value)1 to the Let’s Talk Risk! newsletter to those with the most contribution. 🔥
👉First a little background…
The World Health Organization first endorsed the establishment of World Patient Safety Day in 20192, to be observed on the 17th day of September of each year, to raise awareness of patient safety as a global priority, and to renew global commitment to the Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-20303.
Did you know that, on average, about 1 in 10 patients is subject to an adverse event in high income countries, and about 1 in 4 patients in low- and middle- income countries. The social cost of patient harm globally is estimated to be around US $1 trillion to 2 trillion per year!
This is HUGE! We have got to do our part to help improve patient safety worldwide.
The theme of the 2023 World Patient Safety Day is “Engaging patients for patient safety” and the slogan “Elevate the voice of patients!”4.
The day aims to influence stakeholders including patients, families, policy makers, health care leaders, health workers and patient organizations to work collaboratively towards co-designing health care policies and safety interventions that truly reflect the needs and preferences of patients, ultimately enhancing healthcare safety globally.
